Lincoln's LDF - Current Position Statement

City of Lincoln Council LogoCity of Lincoln Council has agreed to produce a joint Local Development Framework (LDF) with the 2 adjoining district councils, North Kesteven and West Lindsey, and Lincolnshire County Council.  The joint LDF will cover Central Lincolnshire, which is the whole area covered by the City of Lincoln, North Kesteven and West Lindsey.

The joint approach is supported by the government, and offers significant benefits for co-ordinating the planning of Lincoln and the surrounding areas.  A formal agreement by the Councils to work jointly has been accepted by Parliament and came into effect on 12 October 2009.  The joint LDF will be prepared by a Joint Planning Unit (JPU), which will include planning policy staff drawn from the 3 districts, overseen by a new joint committee.  The location of the JPU has yet to be finalised, and contact details will be publicised when the JPU is established.

The first joint LDF document will be the Core Strategy for Central Lincolnshire, which will set out a strategic vision, objectives and strategic policies.  Other LDF documents are expected alongside or following the Core Strategy, covering more detailed site allocations or specific areas such as Area Action Plans.  Discussions are currently being held on the number and timing of documents, details of which will be set out in a forthcoming Local Development Scheme (LDS) for Central Lincolnshire once finalised.

Alongside setting up new joint working arrangements, LDF work is focusing on completing and updating the evidence base for the Joint Core Strategy, including the following studies:

Further details of these studies and the Local Development Framework are available from staff in the Council’s Planning Policy Team and can be contacted by visiting the contact us page here.
